Town football matches 22-23 Jan 2011

Looking at the scores below, it was not the best weekend for Redhill Town, but we did have wins from the U9,U10's and U16's , so not all bad.

Anyway here are the reports from some of the matches

Redhill Town U9 4 – 2 Roundshaw colts C U9

Redhill Town U9 take revenge on Roundshaw Colts C in a dramatic 4-2 thriller, to close in on the top two teams in the division.
The first half saw Redhill Town play an all-out attack 2-3-1 formation, with Tom Hiscock and Joshua Jeffrey, making many driving runs through the Roundshaw defence and testing their goalkeeper, only to be caught out on a counter-attack, to see Roundshaw take the lead, and  Redhill Town going in at half-time 1-0 down.
The second half saw the introduction of Charlie Minter, Haydn Puttick and Zach Layne to play a more structured 3-2-1 formation. This seemed to have done the trick, with the game slowly turning in Redhill Town's favour when  Zach Layne equalised with 15mins left in the game, with a great solo run and slotting it in the near post. Darren Smith then scored soon after to take the lead 2-1. But Roundshaw Colts were not giving up that easy, and equalised 2-2 with 5 mins to go. Redhill Town then stepped up a gear, with some great defensive tackles from Charlie Minter, Joshua Bayode and Kane Taylor, and some amazing wing-play from Haydn Puttick. The goalkeeper, Adam Barber, also saved  the day with some amazing saves to keep us in the game. Darren Smith scored his 2nd goal,, to take the lead again 3-2. Then finally, to see Zach Layne score a spectacular volley from a Darren Smith corner to secure a final score of 4-2.
Man of the match : Charlie Minter

Epsom & Ewell League Division 1 – League Match 22/01/2011
Horsley U11s 2   Redhill Town U11s 1
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After some early pressure, Horsley took the lead in the 9th minute with a lofted shot from the edge of the box which Charlie Case-Green could only dream of reaching as it crept under the bar.

A goal-line clearance by Robin Lewer prevented Horsley from extending their lead and Redhill then started to get back into the game with some fluent passing.  A lovely one-two opened up the Horsley defence and Tom Parker’s shot was pushed up onto the bar by the Horsley goalkeeper, who caught the rebound before it could be poked home.
In the 4th minute of the second half, Redhill somehow managed to keep the ball out following a goalmouth scramble, and 5 minutes later they were back on level terms.  Ryan O’Donovan’s long-range shot from the touchline was just wide of the post.  The resulting goal-kick fell to Joel Sowton, whose shot deflected off a Horsley defender, completely wrong-footing the goalkeeper.
Horsley’s 48th minute winner was somewhat debatable.  A cross from the left hit the standing leg of a Redhill defender and headed goalwards.  Case-Green pounced on the loose ball, but it was harshly judged to have already crossed the line.

Redhill continued to press for the equaliser, going close from a corner near the end, and Horsley can consider themselves somewhat fortunate to have held on for the win.
